Oncology

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with benign and malignant tumors. Oncology is possibly the most rapidly developing field in medicine today, with new possibilities for treatment and medication emerging on an almost monthly basis.

Oncology

Cancer treatment is multidisciplinary, meaning it requires cooperation across a range of different areas of expertise. The treatment is often long term and founded on evidence-based clinical guidelines developed by international oncology organizations. In the course of treatment, patients and the doctors responsible for their care are faced with serious decisions. When making these choices, it is essential to be aware of and understand the various options available.

Oncology treatments are administered at regular intervals, and the patient generally has no personal contact with the clinic in the time between visits. This means they are often left alone with many questions and concerns. (Long-term cancer treatments, such as hormone therapy, can also be provided by the clinic.) When treating cancer, coping with the side-effects of treatment, treating other conditions the patient may be suffering and ensuring that the patient’s quality of life is as good as possible is almost as important as the use of medication to fight the cancer. These issues are also closely connected to the monitoring and aftercare of patients who have made a full recovery from cancer.

In our oncology department, we offer a specialist consultation where we provide patients with important information and offer assistance for coping with difficult situations. Our aim is to provide support in a relaxed, anxiety-free setting to help address any questions related to different types of treatment and their potential side-effects, as well as advice on how to improve the chances of recovery.

When to make an appointment for an oncological consultation:

  • If you have any questions or concerns regarding cancer or cancer treatment
  • If you would like further information on the types of diagnostics and treatments recommended by international guidelines
  • To receive information on the diagnostic and treatment algorithms that are paid for by the Hungarian health service
  • To find out what treatments are supported by evidence-based, clinical guidelines and which are not
  • If you have a serious decision to make, but you are not clear on the options available or don’t understand the nature of the proposed treatment
  • If you would like more information related to particular healthcare issues
  • If you would like further information regarding the best options for treatment
  • If you have completed cancer treatment and wish to undergo follow-up tests and receive aftercare or long-term treatment in a multidisciplinary clinic with an expert team
