Early preeclampsia screening

At our center, we routinely examine the fetal heart and associated large vessels during each early, first-trimester extended screening, second-trimester anomaly screening, and third-trimester assessment screening.

Early preeclampsia screening

An echocardiogram with a cardiologist is also recommended:

  •  If the patient has any history of genetic heart defects in their family, suffers from type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or takes medicine to prevent epilepsy, if you are taking medication or if the trimester screening identifies a developmental heart defect.
  •  If any heart development abnormalities are uncovered during the first trimester general screening, if the fetal colon is measured above 3.1 mm or if certain non-heart development related abnormalities are observed during the first semester, and teratogenic and infectious harm requiring monocortical pregnancy and genetic evaluation.
