An echocardiogram with a cardiologist is also recommended:
- If the patient has any history of genetic heart defects in their family, suffers from type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or takes medicine to prevent epilepsy, if you are taking medication or if the trimester screening identifies a developmental heart defect.
- If any heart development abnormalities are uncovered during the first trimester general screening, if the fetal colon is measured above 3.1 mm or if certain non-heart development related abnormalities are observed during the first semester, and teratogenic and infectious harm requiring monocortical pregnancy and genetic evaluation.
