We work with non-speaking children who are over 2 years old and who have a primary difficulty in language development, and with children who have other difficulties and significant language development delays.
When does a young child need speech and language therapy?
Whenever parents suspect that their child's speech development is delayed. Often they find that although the child understands speech well, he or she does not say words or phrases and cannot express him or herself. It is also noticeable if a young child does not pay enough attention to speech, or does not respond to a given instruction.
What is a language delay?
If a child does not use 50 words and word beginnings by the age of 2, and does not start to connect them, then this is called language delay. It is important to assess the child's condition at an early stage to know what might be behind the non-speaking or late speech onset.
What does speech therapy consist of?
Speech initiation is a speech therapy that does not have a fixed methodology, as there are different approaches and methods for each child.
In the first instance, a longer meeting is always necessary, during which the specialist assesses the individual knowledge and developmental level and tailors the therapy to the child according to the results.
