We believe it is important to provide a reassuring and child-friendly environment for the youngest children, as we are not only preserving and restoring the health of their teeth, but also defining their relationship with dental care for life. We want to be an active part in shaping their dental care and oral hygiene culture, as it is something that needs to be learned.
Why regular dental check-ups are important for children:
- because if the child gets to know the atmosphere and gets used to the dentist before the first problems appear, he or she will be less afraid when it comes to the need for intervention
- because a deciduous baby tooth can hurt
- because deciduous deciduous teeth can cause both localised and extensive inflammation
- because by detecting malocclusions early enough, appropriate pre-treatment can avoid or significantly shorten the time needed for orthodontic treatment
- because not only the dentition is examined, but also the jawbones, jaw joint and soft tissues. And early detection of dysfunction of these structures is also key in guiding the growth of the jaw bones in the right direction and in speech therapy.
- because our paediatric dentists also seek the advice of other specialists (e.g. speech therapist, chiropractor, ear, nose and throat specialist, etc.) if necessary to ensure maximum success.
What happens in the surgery:
- We make every effort to ensure a friendly atmosphere for our youngest patients, even while they are waiting. There is a children's corner in the waiting room where children can play while the adults take care of the paperwork.
- Children can develop a sense of sympathy outside the surgery, as the doctor will always go out to the waiting room to greet and invite them in.
- When the child sits in the dental chair, the doctor and his smiling assistant show the child all the instruments. Once everything sounds and looks familiar, the child will not be frightened during the treatment, which makes life easier for both patient and staff.
- If it is possible, because there are no sore teeth, the first time it is just a case of getting to know each other. The doctor looks inside the child's mouth and then the parent and the child's three parents discuss what treatments the child will need next. He or she will explain in a way that the child can understand what the treatment is about, how long it will take and how the child can tell the doctor if he or she needs a break.
- We ask parents to help us by coming to the appointment with their child prepared by going over what they heard in the clinic at home.
- We reward children with gifts and verbal praise after the intervention. Afterwards, they always walk out of the door smiling and proud, and in most cases arrive at the next appointment happy and unconvinced.
