In a system of fixed (muntibond) braces, self-ligating brackets (metal buttons) are bonded to the teeth, which hold the arch that stores the force needed to move the tooth in place with a built-in lock. The brackets can be made of metal or porcelain!
Fixed appliances are a much cheaper system than removable ones and are now fashionable to wear, and can be worn consistently in children, but are most commonly used in patients with permanent dentition!
