These can be put into two main categories: primary and secondary headaches. In the primary category, the headache itself, such as a migraine, is the illness, while the secondary headache appears as a symptom (of high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, etc.). Pain that appears frequently and with increasing strength can significantly reduce the ability to work and quality of life. For this very reason, expert help is indispensible when treating headache. There are many good medications available that can reduce or even eliminate the pain, but few people are aware that pain killers when taken long-term can themselves begin to cause headaches. So the method of dealing with the pain does matter.
RMC Clinics’s Internal Medicine specialist, Dr Eszter Bodnár, was trained at the Dent Neurologic Institute in Buffalo, one of the largest headache centers in the United States, by Dr. László Mechtler, who is known throughout America as a headache expert and is Chief of the Department of Neuro-Oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (the first hospital in the world to use chemotherapy). Some 6,000 patients visit the center each year, the majority of whom couldn’t be helped by other doctors. There, Dr. Eszter Bodnár encountered a completely new approach to headaches, learned the method, and is now very successful in helping people who struggle with headaches. Therapy for headache is very complex and customized, and generally requires the cooperation of several specialists (internist, neurologist, psychiatrist, massage therapist, musculoskeletal therapist, etc.), all of which are available in our clinic.
